Natassa Pappa, graphic designer, founder and author of the city guide Into Stoas-Athens Walkthrough believes that the arcades are the most hidden aspect of the modern city of Athens, a back-stage labyrinth full of stories; some even call it the city’s unconscious. 
In this walking lecture of urban Athens, she connects the exits by following the old often overlooked exit signs and takes you on a trip through the most interesting passageways in the heart of Athens.
The lecture analyzes the vernacular visual communication in the intermediate of the urban fabric, the characteristics of the arcades and the manner in which people navigate and experience the city. During the 2-hour walk, participants will have the opportunity to explore these hidden pathways and follow the history of the city’s commercial activity through unique professional classes which do not survive elsewhere.

Up to now the project has created several products such as the city guide map Into Stoas – Athens Walkthrough, the concrete coasters Into Stoas (Index) and the research has expanded to Thessaloniki, the second largest city of Greece. 

About Natassa Pappa: She is an independent graphic designer based in Athens, focusing on using the city as a source or as a medium, in order to create narratives and new experiences through design products. Her work ranges from print to spatial design, always research-driven and with a conceptual approach. Her city guide projects has won awards in Greece and abroad.
