This is a one of a kind day trip to Mycenae and Nafplio beyond the big bus tours which ends with you having a better grasp of what links ancient Greece to the present life and people of Southern Greece.

Activity Description

The tour starts in Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will walk through the famed Lion Gate to witness the ruins that is a fusion of history and myth. You also get the chance to visit the three thousand year old structure known as Tomb of Agamemnon. It is where the Mask of Agamemnon, a golden funeral mask, was discovered by the famed archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann. Make sure to listen closely to your guides as you will uncover every story of this mysterious and historical site.

Nafplio is a contradicting tone from Mycenae's dark and tragic atmosphere. You get the chance to observe as craftspeople create their work and see how their crafts are still similar to those of the ancient artisans'. You’ll visit a number of other ventures by local artisans; a distillery and a sweet-shop where the traditional almond sweets are still made the way they were generations ago. Your day of time-travel will end with a hearty lunch in one of Nafplio's trendiest hidden taverns, for the best food in town. 

On the way back to Athens, you will also make a short stop at the Corinth Canal, to admire the narrow Isthmus of Corinth that separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland.

Note: Big groups in the shared tours are avoided to give respect to the locals and so as not to further disrupt their everyday lives. Entry fees to Mycenae archaeological site cost €12 per person. Reduced entry (€6) for Greek and EU citizens over 65 years old and students upon presentation of a valid student ID. Children under 18 years old enter free of charge.
