An alternative to the conventional big bus tour to ancient Delphi, this guided hiking tour with local experts, pioneers in their field of outdoor activities in the area, is a fantastic way to visit the ancient site after an exploration in the beautiful Greek mountains surrounding the area.  

Activity Description

Your guide, a renowned Greek expert, will drive you to Mt Parnassos -about 2 hours from Athens- where you will be trekking the mountain's ancient trails leading to the archeological site of Delphi and the famous Corycean cave; you will end your day in the picturesque village of Arachova for coffee and strolls before your return to Athens.
The hike starts off-road at the valley (Livadi) at a hight of approximately 1200m. Following the ancient trail, your guide will lead you through a forest area to the Corycean cave, an ancient holy cave dedicated to god Pan. The hike continues downhill (for about 1-1.5 hours) to a remote little church with a natural spring for a rest and light lunch of fresh local produce at a sheepfold. Then, your guide will transfer you via car to ancient Delphi where you will have plenty of time to explore the archaeological site (stadium, theatre and more) in a relaxed mode. You will also have the chance to visit the Delphi museum, if you wish. Thereafter, you will walk the ancient trails overlooking the ancient site for magnificent views (and pictures!) of the wonders of Delphi from above (a hike of approx. 45 minutes). Following your hike, you will return to the car and your guide will drive you to the near-by Arachova village where you will have plenty of time to stroll, taste and shop local artisanal products and relax over a cup of coffee or mountain tea and local delicacies, before you head back to Athens in the early evening.

Note:  Equipment required: Backpack, shoes suitable for trekking or sports, warm jacket, fleece jumper, long trousers, warm cap/hat, water, snacks, extra clothes in case of bad weather and rain. Itineraries may be subject to minor changes depending on weather conditions.
