WHY WE LOVE IT
An alternative and entertaining way to visit the Acropolis Museum and explore Athens with a group of friends, family or colleagues; an activity not just to accumulate knowledge through fun but also to promote teamwork, creativity and collective spirit!
Activity Description
Participants will first be introduced to the Acropolis museum, where they will have a chance to learn about the architecture and story of the museum that is placed amongst the top 10 museums in the world. The focus will be on the story of Athens during its Golden Era, giving insights on the social, political and philosophical situation that led to Athens becoming a superpower of the time.
After the visit to the museum, the group will have the opportunity to explore the area of Plaka and play a very original game, based on the comedies of Aristophanes, a famous thinker and a playwright of Ancient Athens. His plays are more relevant than ever with regards to the current social and economic situation, not only in Athens but on a global level.
The Game:
During their walk, the guide will lead the group to hidden corners of Plaka, where they will meet a professional storyteller. In each of these stops, the storyteller will make a short performance based on a play by Aristophanes.
The first stop will be a performance based on '' ’Ορνιθες ' (The Birds). The storyteller will split the group into five teams, where they will work together to produce the imaginary city of Nefelokokkia, as described in Aristophanes story. The team that manages to create this city in the shortest time will be the winner of this activity.
In the second stop, the storyteller will make a performance based on Aristophanes play ''Βάτραχοι'' (The Frogs). With the help of the storyteller and the material she will provide, each team will have to work to create the longest possible phrase, an activity inspired by the story they have just heard. The team that creates the longest phrase that makes sense will be the winner of this activity.
In the end, the group will have gained a good understanding about the principles and the society of Ancient Greece, in an interactive, educative and fun way!
